Mission Statement

We are driven by goals to enhance the quality of life, investigating problems as well as incidents, seeking solutions and fostering a sense of security in the community and individuals. We develop public trust by holding ourselves to the highest standards of performance and ethics. The Sheridan Police Department exists to serve all people within our jurisdiction with respect, fairness and compassion. We are committed to the prevention of crime and the protection of life and property; the preservation of peace, order and safety; the enforcement of laws and ordinances; and the safeguarding of constitutional guarantees. To fulfill its mission, the Sheridan Police Department is dedicated to providing a professional work environment and the development of its members through effective training and leadership.

With the coming of “Tax Season” we are observing a rise in the number of complaint calls pertaining to individuals being scammed by subjects impersonating IRS Agents.  Commonly, the victim will receive a call from an individual or individuals claiming to be IRS Agents stating the victim owes back taxes and must make payment immediately or be arrested.   The IRS has issued a number of public announcements both on TV and in print media warning the public of this fraud but we continue to see a large number of individuals who have fallen victim.

Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) is currently investigating all IRS Impersonation Scams and takes the matter seriously.   If you are the victim of an IRS Impersonation Scam please report the complaint to the TIGTA Denver Field Division at (303) 291-6100 or TIGTA’s “IRS Impersonation Scam Reporting” website linked below:
